Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs)
Tumour infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are white blood cells that have left the bloodstream and migrated towards a tumour. They include T cells and B cells and are part of the larger category of ‘tumour-infiltrating immune cells’.
A type of immune cell that has moved from the blood into a tumour. TILs can recognize and kill cancer cells. In cancer therapy, TILs are removed from a patient’s tumour, grown in large numbers in a laboratory, and then given back to the patient to help the immune system kill the cancer cells. Also called tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte. 1
